In early 2004 the Washougal Downtown Revitalization Implementation Committee (DRIC) was approached by local farmers and citizens to discuss the opportunity in our community for a local Farmers’ Market. The DRIC and City of Washougal began working together to find a location to host the market. Pendleton Woolen Mills graciously came forward and offered the use of their parking area to hold the first 4 years of market. This gave the Market a great location, close to SR-14 and downtown Washougal.

It was decided to name the market “Gateway to the Gorge Farmers’ Market” in honor of the nickname Washougal was originally given in the 1940’s. In the beginning it was the goal of the Gateway to the Gorge Farmers’ Market to focus on local produce and craftsmen. The market grew and changed, yet stayed true to the small town feel the vendors and Market Committee Members felt were so important.

While the market was in its beginning stages, discussions were happening with the City of Washougal to make improvements to the downtown core. In 2006 Construction began on the downtown renovations and continued until the fall of 2007.

Construction is now complete and this year we are pleased to announce that we have some changes to our market. We have a new name, new location, and new focus. The Washougal Main Street Market will be opening in its new location, Reflection Plaza on Saturday, May 10, 2008. This Plaza was specifically created to host special events in this community and we hope to have you join us in 2008 at Main Street Market.
